Afghanistan project
This project will document Germany's military engagement in Afghanistan through portraits of German army soldiers before, during and after their deployment.
In order to avoid the established photo-journalistic view that is commonly used in conflicts like this, the soldiers and their families will be photographed on white.
My visual language, rooted in reduction and quality, will offer a stage for each portrait to tell each story, creating a lasting and genuine document of this war.
The first portraits were taken last February. It will continue through training camps, lead to Afghanistan, and conclude with the return of the portrayed soldiers to Germany.
